The secondary school runs from Year 7 through to Year 11, and is a registered centre for Cambridge International Examinations. Classes are taught by a range of subject specialist teachers. By the end of Year 11, students sit a number of IGCSE examinations. These courses are internationally recognised and many top international schools now offer them.
In Years 7 & 8 students follow the British KS3 National Curriculum (enhanced for an international setting). Subjects studied are: Maths; English; Sciences; History; Geography; French; Kiswahili; IT; Art; Music; PSHE; and Civics. In addition, curriculum time is provided for PE and swimming lessons.
From Year 9, students follow three year IGCSE courses: they are able to select from a range of subjects and can take up to 11 courses. Students are able to take: Maths; English Language; English Literature; Biology; Chemistry; Physics; History; Geography; Business Studies; French; Kiswahili; and ICT. In addition, curriculum time is provided for PE and there are a number of extra-curricular activities offered for students after school.
Support is provided for students who struggle in particular subjects, including one-to-one tutoring and student mentoring. Outside the classroom students are expected to use their time wisely for additional study and research using our libraries or computer suite.
Across secondary, students are encouraged to involve themselves in clubs and activities. Social responsibility is promoted: students are given the opportunity to act as mentors to younger students, to help with the Saturday School and to take part in fund-raising and charitable clubs. Leadership roles are offered, where students can become prefects, lead a school house or take part in the student council. The aim is to develop the whole student, and to provide our students with the skills needed to become the leaders of tomorrow.
