All children are taught in English and the school has adapted the British National Curriculum to suit the international nature of the school and its pupils. British standard assessment tests (SATs) are used to monitor progress which ensures that academic standards are maintained. Optional SATs are also used in English and mathematics.
Subjects taught are English, mathematics, science, information technology, design technology, geography, history, art, music, Kiswahili, French and physical education. Class sizes are limited to a maximum of twenty and classroom assistants are present in many lessons, particularly in the younger classes. We also offer support for children with special educational needs as well as offering intensive programmes of study for children entering the school with little or no English.
The school is organized on a class basis with age being the main factor in determining where a child is placed. However there is flexibility in the system to allow children to move up for certain subjects if they show good aptitude and talent. The classes are of mixed ability and teachers differentiate tasks for small groups and individuals. Most of the teaching in the primary classes is done by the class teacher. Children start IT in year 1, Kiswahili in year 4 and French in year 5. These are taught by subject specialists.
