Quality education needs to be at the heart of everything that we do. We aim to keep MIS at the forefront of educational developments and other pedagogical advances. In order to do this we have created links with partner schools in Africa and the UK: Two academies and several primary schools in the UK send us new research and teaching techniques which we are able to implement at MIS, along with various schemes and administration tools. This allows us to make use of some of the most recent thought and research in education. Senior teachers from some of these schools have already visited MIS to work individually with teachers and the school administration. More such trips are planned for the future. We are working with university students from an educational university in Finland (a country with extremely high literacy levels) to develop new schemes and methods to use at MIS.
We are also making links with other International Schools in Tanzania, bringing teachers from the different schools together (or via the internet) to discuss and develop schemes of work, teaching plans and other such schemes. This helps to ensure that we do not get isolated and are able to develop in conjunction with other schools (several of whom follow the same curriculums and exam syllabuses).
Raising the literacy levels of our students is central within all these schemes. We aim to ensure that our students leave MIS with an extremely high level of English speaking and writing. Fast track literacy programmes and whole school literacy schemes are in place in order to achieve this. We also provide individualised English teaching to many students (making use of the various volunteers who come to the school).
Students are also able to access work and extension material on our virtual learning platform by visiting www.mismoodle.com on the internet. This site was set up specifically for MIS students and all the items contained on it are designed to enhance and extend our students' learning experience.
