Morogoro International School

A small friendly school with modern resources and excellence as its aim

At MIS students are encouraged and motivated to develop into socially responsible young adults, and are given numerous opportunities to involve themselves in social action, for example by volunteering at our Saturday School or by mentoring other students.

The school ethos is one of commitment to the wider community in which we are based. There is a growing scholarship scheme which aims to provide a quality education to local children whose families could otherwise not afford it. In addition, there is now a Saturday School
where English and computing skills are taught along with various sporting activities to children from a local state primary. Volunteers and teachers are involved in the running of this along with many MIS students. More links with other groups in Morogoro are also being developed, for example our swimming pool is now used by a group of disabled children for recreation and rehabilitation.

MIS students are invited to join a charities committee, offering them the chance to think up, develop and run fund-raising initiatives to support projects of their choice. Other opportunities are also provided, for example the chance to
volunteer time at a local orphanage. Students have collected toys, clothes and medical supplies for the same orphanage. There is now an active Interact (the youth version of Rotary) team at the school which is managed and run by students at MIS.

Many of our school events (such as the Food Fair and the Fun-day) are designed as opportunities for families from all communities in Morogoro to visit and enjoy our site. In addition, we open up our facilities (at low cost) to groups from the local community so that they can run events here outside school hours.
