Monday 27th June 2011
Dear Parents and Carers,
The last few weeks have been extremely busy with exams (congratulations particularly to our Year 11 students for completing their IGCSEs), trips (Yr 10 enjoyed a week doing Geography and Science work in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro), PTA events (thanks to the PTA for organising the karaoke event on Saturday night) and a very exciting sports day (well done Ruaha for winning).
We have nearly reached the end of the year – thank you all for your support over the past year. This will be the final newsletter of the school year. Please read it carefully as there is a lot of important information! In past years, it is noticeable that many students have very poor attendance in the last weeks of the third term. I would like to remind all families that we do have an attendance policy and that, even if absence is authorised it will still be reflected in a lower attendance percentage in the end of year reports, and students whose attendance falls below a certain level may not be able to move onto the next year. Please make all efforts to ensure your children attend school right up to the end of the year as all activities and events that take place are part of the formal curriculum and your children will lose out if they do not attend.
After school activities
Due to a very busy end of term schedule there will be no more after-school activities until next term.
Triathlon: Monday 4th July
The annual triathlon will take place on Monday 4th July. School will start at the normal time, and will finish for all students at 1.20pm. Students will need to supply their own bikes / tricycles for the event. Parents are very welcome to come and support the students.
Last day of term: Wednesday 6th July
The final assembly of term will take place on Wednesday 6th July at 11am and should be finished around 12pm. As always, we will find out which house was the overall winner for the year and will give out a range of prizes and certificates for student achievement. There will also be a special teacher performance! Parents are most welcome to attend.
Annual reports
End of year reports will be handed out on the last day. Please note that these are addressed to parents and students should not open these themselves. If you do not receive a report please email the school office.
School Jumpers
The shop that supplies the school uniform polo shirts has begun supplying school jumpers/pullovers. These jumpers are blue, v-neck and have the school logo on them. Please ask at the shop if you are interested.
School fees 2011-2012
Invoices for next term were sent out last week along with various letters and other important information for next academic year. You will note a small increase on the termly fees: this was agreed to by the Board of Directors at their most recent Board Meeting. We still, however, have a low overall fee structure compared to other recognised international schools in the country and will continue to offer excellent value for money. If you did not receive an invoice please contact the school office.
School fees must be paid before the beginning of term (5th September 2011). If you are unable to do this it is your responsibility to collect a payment instalment plan sheet from the school office, fill it in, sign it and return it before the 5th September. If the school office does not have either proof of payment or an instalment plan for a student they will not be allowed to attend school.
UK trip: 2nd July 2011 – 13th July 2011
A group of our students from primary and secondary will be travelling to the UK just before the end of term with Ms. Rampall and Ms. Holdsworth. Whilst there they will have some English Language/Literacy lessons as well as taking part in various activities, visiting Old Trafford football ground, sightseeing in London and seeing a West End musical (The Lion King).

This is my last letter as Headmaster at MIS (I am moving back to the UK at the end of the school year), and as I said in an earlier letter, though I am sad to be moving on, I am certain that MIS will be in an even better situation next year and that it will continue to develop and grow. I have greatly enjoyed my time at MIS, and value the support and friendships I have experienced from directors, colleagues, parents and students alike. MIS is a unique school which leaves a positive impact on all who come through it and I wish it the very best for the future. I am sure you will be as welcoming to Mr. Hopkinson (who will arrive from the UK as my replacement) as you were to me!
If you have any questions then feel free to organise a meeting with me through the school office.
Yours Sincerely,
Charlie Bretherton Headmaster
